Original french 1940s wartime vintage reels of high quality pure linen thread,
as new in sturdy and beautiful box, unused.
Box contains 50 spools of grade 100 linen thread. (100 metres of the thread
weighs one gram). Each spool contains 50 metres of thread. The product has been
stored correctly and is strong linen thread, difficult to break by hand, ready
for normal use in craft projects should you wish.
Highly collectible and beautifully presented packaging details include:
-quality cardboard box with lid, reinforced with metal at each corner of both
parts.
-three-colour (plus gold leaf) lithographic print on the top of the box
double-plate print in black and gold leaf
-Publicity inside the box includes a paper leaflet boasting trade-fair and
biennale awards from 1873 until 191, including a cross of honour received in
Amsterdam 1895, a gold medal received in received in Vienna 1908, and many
others from Brussels, Antwerp, Paris, Nancy, Clermony-Ferrand, Turin, Roubaix,
and Chicago.
-Further leaflets included in the box explain wartime hardship (translated
from french):
"Important Notice:
Because of the shortage of cardboard, we are obliged to remove the cases that
enveloped our yarn. We present therefore provisionally our yarn in skeins. We
apologize to our customers and would like to assure that only the presentation
has changed and will find our skeins the top quality yarn that made the fame of
[our brand]."
"the shortage of cardboard compels us to ask you to return empty boxes for us
to reload for you. Return the empty boxes, even in poor condition, or an
equivalent weight of cardboard, to your provider."
