In the 1800's, the government provided the Navajo with brightly-colored yarns
for their weavings after all their sheep were killed and their lands taken away
from them. Weavings with these colorful yarns eventually became known as
Germantown rugs because of where the yarns originated from Germantown,
Pennsylvania. It also dates these textiles around 1870's to 1890's, because
that is when the yarn was only provided to them. A unique piece of American
history.
Measures 37" long with fringe, 22" wide.
