Stretched, off-white linen embroidered with wildflowers in a mixture of wool
and acrylic yarns. The piece demonstrates a variety of techniques including
straight, short and long stitches for the infill; back stitches and split
stitches to outline; as well as fly stitches and French knots for additional
texture. The stitching is very neat in the back, demonstrating experience with
the technique. The maker used a Bucilla #2168 “Cut Flowers” 16” pillow kit.
They opted to stretch the piece for framing after they were finished instead of
making a pillow.
Condition is good, with no stains, tears or unfinished areas. The royal blue
colored threads have begun to fail and some of the stitches along the border
have broken. This is likely due to an unstable dye which has weakened the yarn
fibers over time. Approximately 16” square.
