The bright yellow flowers and mottled green leaves of the dog-toothed violet
brighten up the springtime forest. The petals, leaves, stems and sticks are
attached to a felt base and stitched to the background to create a dimensional
effect. The ends of the stamens are shaded with Prisma-color pencils and lie
free from the quilt top. The leaves were thread painted with monopoly thread
and colored with Fabrico ink markers. The shadows were made with 2 layers of
black tulle stitched to the background or leaf with monopoly thread. The
background is made of triangular snippets of batik landscape fabric. And there
is a small bee charm sitting on a leaf. This art quilt would look great in any
small area on your wall. This is the fourth quilt in a series called “Among the
Leaves – A Spring Walk in the Woods”. I love these spring flowers because they
bring such a wonderful sense of beauty and relief from the drab and cold
winter, hinting at the warmer weather to come.
